Welcome to our weekly update on Dromadis Health! 👋
As usual, comments and feedback are suuuuper welcome. Email us, comment on this post, or just reach out for a chat, we’re friendly people! 😁
Quick refresher
We’re building Asparagus, a device that analyses your urine directly from your toilet bowl. You can choose how often, for how long, and what you want to track from the list below:
diet 🥗
hydration 💧
hormones ⭐
fat burn 🏃♂️
early markers of chronic diseases (e.g. pre-diabetes, kidney disease), to catch them while they’re reversible 💪
We’re helping you take control of your health and get in sync with your body.
This week, in short
We started setting up experiments to size the demand, and hence had to identify potential customer segments, do preliminary work on branding, and design the first version of the Asparagus device! 👩🏼🎨👨🏽🎨
Week #5 accomplishments
🧪 We started setting up experiments to size the demand
This is the common thread behind everything we did this week. The most reliable way to validate/disprove the need for a consumer product is to test the market directly.
That’s why we are setting up a series of experiments, through digital advertising. We want to quantify the need for Asparagus from different customer segments. To do so, we need to show people what the device will look like, have a brand, and map all the potential customer segments.
Before we move to the next part, do you have insights or thoughts to share about Asparagus? We’d love to hear about them – book me here 👇
🖌 We have a first baby brand
If you’re receiving this weekly update by email, you might have noticed the color scheme has changed since last week. That’s because we got started on branding work!
We’re going for something clean, green, and simple. Thank you to the amazing Léa Lortal for drawing the first Asparagus logo! 🙌
✏️ We mapped out all the potential customer segments
Throughout our lives, our bodies will undergo many changes. We figured that the people who care the most about the insights Asparagus can provide are those who are trying to get in sync with their bodies. A few examples from the people we’ve talked to:
losing weight ⚖️
working on a more balanced diet 🥗
trying a new contraceptive pill 💊
going through gender transition ⚧️
trying to get pregnant 🤰
optimising physical performance 🏃♂️
avoiding recurrent urinary infections 🤒
Next step: quantify the demand and size of these markets so we can set priorities for which sensors to integrate first!
🎨 We have a first rough design of Asparagus
What you’ve probably been waiting for! We literally went to the drawing board, and explored all the different urine collection systems we could think of.
The design will probably still change, but this is what we think it will probably initially look like:
Inside the toilet bowl, the Asparagus collection system looks like one of those cute toilet soap dispenser.
Outside the toilet bowl sits the connected electronic part of the device. This is where the analysis happens.
The top diagram shows what the user sees, the bottom shows what is happening behind the scenes (simplified). The urine flows from the collection system (right) to the analysis device (left). The biosensors then make the appropriate measurements, and the liquid is sent back to the toilet bowl through another pipe. It’s a one way system, cleaned by the flush and sterilized a few minutes later.
Tell us what you think in the comments – we hope you’re as excited as we are!
Wait. What happened to Onion? 🧅
In the past few weeks, we have explored another device: Onion 🧅, a smart contact lens case to analyse fluid from your eyes.
The short-term applications are niche, but could make a huge improvement to a number of people’s lives. We are in talks to secure the co-development of Onion with major players in the contact lenses space.
The project has a lot of potential and we will be following a B2B2C approach. Moving forward, we will only discuss Onion when we have a major update.
What’s next?
🧊 Get a proper 3D prototype of Asparagus
🧪 Run ads to quantify demand from different customer segments
🔧 Start building prototype to understand technological challenges better
You know we love food… This week’s team lunch was at the one and only delicious Flat Iron! 🥩
