Welcome to our weekly update on Dromadis Health! 👋
As usual, comments and feedback are suuuuper welcome. DM us, comment on this post, or just reach out for a chat, we’re friendly people! 😁
Quick refresher
We build products that effortlessly track your health.
We’re currently focusing on Asparagus 🥬, a device to analyse your urine directly from your toilet bowl. We’re also exploring Onion 🧅, a smart contact lens case to analyse fluid from your eyes.
This week, in short
We interviewed a lot of people to get a deeper understanding of the market for Asparagus.
Week #3 accomplishments
💬 We interviewed 30+ people
Talking to our potential customers was our #1 priority this week. We have been working hard to evaluate the market for Asparagus – what is our niche? Who cares enough about tracking their health? Who doesn’t? Why not? How big is the market?
To answer these questions, we talked to people to understand their relationship with their health. We met incredible individuals: some care so much that they track their glucose levels continuously with a needle in their skin (they are not diabetic); others actively refuse to get a health check up unless they feel very unwell.
We found out sooo much from these conversations!
💡 We learned new words
Time-To-Kitchen-Drawer (TTKD): semi-sarcastic metric that popped up a few times in our conversations. It represents how long it takes people to stop using their fitness tracker. We tried to dig deeper into why the TTKD was sometimes so short and learned more about the inconvenience of wearables.
Ketosis: the metabolic state in which the body uses fat as the main source of energy instead of carbohydrates. Understanding whether they were in ketosis was the main use case we heard for people taking frequent urine tests.
Quantified Self (QS): community of people who track their health data and analyse it to learn about their bodies. We estimate there are 70-80K active engaged members worldwide. Read more about QS here.
Quantified Self Spectrum: a graphic tool we use to map customers of Asparagus and other health tracking devices. See below 👇
💸 We got £80 to build our first Asparagus prototype
A big big shout-out and thank you to our 8 early supporters! 🎉
One particular user – you will recognise yourself – was very inspiring. We interviewed them without giving any information about what we were building until the very very end. They then asked about where to find more information, we sent them a link to our Substack newsletter, and received £10 a few minutes later. Thank you again for taking this leap of faith with us!
Most importantly – we asked every single one of these 8 people why they sent us money. After all, they had neither seen the device nor do they know what it will track exactly. By asking them why, we built a better understanding of who Asparagus’ first supporters and customers could be.
£20 to go, and we’ll build it! 🔧
